Problems for Discussion - 2 - Methotrexate

Problem 1

A 65-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis is prescribed methotrexate 10 mgs weekly. She presents to the emergency department with a history of diarrhoea and a sore mouth.
On further history it is apparent that she has mistakenly taken her methotrexate on a daily basis for the past two weeks.

  1. What additional risk factors for methotrexate toxicity may she have?
  2. How would you define her risk of toxicity?
