===== ANTICHOLINERGIC PLANTS =====

Atropine-like reactions may occur with several plants, some of which are used by drug abusers. The major clinical manifestations are nausea, dry skin & mouth, tachycardia, mydriasis, delirium, hallucinations, convulsions and urinary retention (the [[:wikitox:3.2.1.3_toxidromes|anticholinergic toxidrome]]).

The most common plants are:

  * //[[:wikitox:datura|Datura]]// and //Brugmansia//  species (aka Jimsonweed, Thornapple, Stinkweed, Jamestownweed, Devil's apple, Angel's trumpet, Loco seed, Melpitte, Green dragon, Stramonium and Apple of Peru)
  * //[[:wikitox:atropa_belladonna|Atropa belladonna]]// (Deadly nightshade)
  * //Duboisia myoporoides//  (Corkwood)
[[:wikitox:2.1.11.4.1_anticholinergics|Specific treatment]] consists of sedatives ([[:wikitox:benzodiazepines|diazepam]]), anticholinesterase inhibitors (physostigmine, tacrine), and avoidance of anticholinergic drugs (e.g. neuroleptics).
