Medically important snakes of Sri Lanka
The following snakes account for severe envenoming. Thus, these snakes constitute the most important group medically, whilst, no deaths have been reported from the last two (6 and 7) species.
1. Russell’s viper (Daboia russelli russelli)
2. Common krait (Bungarus caeruleus)
3. Cobra (Naja naja)
4. Merrum’s Hump-nosed viper (Hypnale hypnale)
5. Ceylon krait (Bungarus ceylonicus)
6. Saw scaled viper (Echis carinatus carinatus)
7. Green pit viper (Trimeresurus trigonocephalus)
