All hospital accident and emergency departments, general practice surgeries, community health centres and other direct health care agencies should have a directory of their local proclaimed places, detoxification units, drug and alcohol agencies and pain management teams. Not only is it useful to know where such resources are and how to contact them, but also, such agencies are themselves useful sources of advice and information.

The NSW Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service (phone: 02 95572905) will provide advice from a specialist in alcohol and drug problems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
